You DESERVE the BEST! How to get the BEST out of your Recruiter

Working with a recruiter is a great way to get high calibre candidates who are not actively looking for work to apply for your job vacancy… but how can you get the best out of your recruiter?

In order to ensure your recruiter is giving you their best, you have to give them the tools needed to successfully fill your position. Follow these five top tips to ensure you are getting the BEST out of your recruiter.

1. Be clear on criteria

Give your recruiter a clear specIn order for them to accurately source the right candidates for you, they need to have a clear specification as to what you are after. So ensure you have given them a list of what type of person you are looking for:

  • What are the essential skills they need to have and what are the desirable ones?
  • What will the ideal person be like? For example, what personality type and/or personality traits do they need?
  • What are the company’s core values and cultures – and what are those your ideal candidate would have?

2. Job Description

Following on from the first point, ensure you give the recruiter a detailed job description, including:

  • Give examples of the tasks the job entails
  • Be clear on the job title
  • What career opportunities will they have?

It would be a great idea to meet with them to go over the specification in more detail. This will give you the opportunity to explain the parts of the job that may not be mentioned in the job description. You can also go further into the company ethics and culture, along with giving them a first hand impression of you as an employer and an individual.

4. Give a Sensible Timeline

When working with a recruiter ensure your timeline is a realistic one. Be clear on when you want the initial shortlist of CV’s, along with how and when you’d like to receive status updates etc.

Finally – and MOST IMPORTANTLY – give them feedback. Tell them what you thought of the CV’s, along with how you got on at interview stage. If you haven’t found anyone you like, explain what you’re not seeing and what you’d like to see in the next shortlist of candidates… the more feedback you can give, the more you’ll get out of both your recruiter and the better candidates you will receive.

By following these five tips you’ll ensure you are getting the very BEST from your recruiter… and a higher calibre of employee at the end of the process.
